Party southeast florida members

Im graduating in two weeks as a registered nurse here in Queens New York and plan to move down south after a year or two of work experience. My wife calls me "a plant freak" and I am considering moving to south florida to be able to pick and plant bananas, avocados, coconuts, garden etc... year round. I also love the beach and direct flights to south america. Also real estate is cheap compared to NYC. To all south florida members, especially miami area, any suggestions on places to look for affordable properties (more or less one acre) with no restrictions on pets and with a diverse mix of people? Also I might opt for vacant land in order to build an efficient and hurricane resistant home (maybe modular prefab etc...) Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
