You don't want a puddle around them all the time, but frequent watering is fine!

Sometimes, if the sun is burning burning hot, you might not want to water the leaves of young plants (or any for that matter..) because the droplets magnify the sun and can cause burn spots... that's just an overall general rule of gardening. When it rains, there's usually clouds that block the sun. So watering in full sun is not as natural as you would think.

But they love water! Imagine the plant as an inflatible pool toy. How long do you think it would take to fill that with water? Well thats basically what the plant did to get that size! And combine that with evaporation and the sun etc... It takes lots of water to get big plants.

I'm actually considering catching rainwater from the roof with a gutter system and storing it in basins that hook up to a drip system out to the plants with soaking hoses and drip tips etc.
