Re: Been Asked Before But....
Terry:
I thouht the ice creams were not going to make it but when the weather becomes hotter they are just now sending its frst spear and started grwing real fast. The large elele did not make t perhaps I watered too much but the smaller one as a freebee surprisingly are making it. It's green and a new spear is trying to come out but the dwarf cav is the one that is sending a lot of pups. 3 at the moment
I'll keep them in pots until I am sure they can survive on the ground this time.
My mistake was I planted all of them on the ground the first time when the temt were still kinda low. After a month and there was no activity I dug them up and planted them back in pots.
The Misi Luki I thought were safe but for 2 months there were no growth and I read at the forum with a mushy rotten center and sure enough, at the base were nothing but rotten flesh. So I Removed al of the rotten part which created a big hole in the center but the sides of the corm were still white and fresh. I dip it to the 3% hydrogen peroxide for 3 minutes and washed it. I planted it in a semidry mixture of bark and peat and perlite. That was 3 days ago and I saw the beginning of a bump at the sides which appear to be a beginning of a spear forming but it is still too early to tell.
After I correspond with you I met a guy at a weekend plant expo who invited me to attend who used to be a member of this forum and he was selling bananas too in gallon pots. Plus he dug me some large pups and sold me those at the expo.
I bought a lot from him plus I gave a bunch to my sister.
I'll post most of my new bananas soon at my photo gallery.
