Bananas Brindando HELP with my over wintered plants

I took my 3 over wintered basjoos out of the basement today and although this my first time storing them in the basement they didn't look so good. I left about 3 ft of stalk and wraped them in newspaper, whenI unwraped them they looked dry and dead, I planted one in the ground anyway but I'm not so sure it's not dead. Any ideas on what they're supposed to look like.
Thanks
