I've had a very busy last few weeks, but I did ask the wildlife folks I work with and they told me that the best way to get rid of hole diggers is to get rid of their food. Which means treating you soil with an insecticide that kills grubs and worms. Something with the active ingredient imidicloprid would work. If you were out in the country like me you could shoot it, but where you live that would involve a visit from the police.
