Nick, I hope it works out for you. Seems like you need to create a high-end market so you can make enough per pound to make it worth your while. I can't see how you could compete with the overseas growers of Cavendish. I think you are right about small fruited varieties potentially being popular. I've run across a number of kids and older adults who find a regular Cavendish just too big and who really like "baby bananas". Seems like it would be ideal to sell "boutique" bananas -- locally grown, organic, and made to sound like something fancy, targeting the folks who would appreciate it and can afford it (e.g., the Whole Foods crowd). I would consider Mysore (or the banana streak virus free version, Pisang Ceylon). They are "baby banana" size, have incredible flavor, and shelf life that exceeds any other I've tried. They also seem to be at least a little bit cold hardy, better than Cavendish at any rate. I'd sell them as "pineapple banana" because it sounds exotic and is actually a pretty good description of how they taste.

Were you cringing every time the article mentioned propagating Veinte Cohol by seed? I guess the writer didn't run the text by the experts before publishing it.
