Hi guys! I'm a newbie here but have been growing these rascals in N.E. Atlanta for many years. My Basjoos started poking thru the pine straw mulch the second week of February and are now about 3' tall. Anyway, I tried an Ensete Glaucum "Snow Banana" from Florida Hill Nursery last year. That guy grew like crazy and was way over my head at the end of summer and gorgeous with a huge trunk! One issue with this type is the trunk....it was over one foot in diameter at the base so there was no way to dig the corm and store it for winter. I did my usual (cut off about 6" above the ground and cover with a large pile of pine straw and replenish over the winter as it settles...ohhh, the crossing of fingers is important as well!) and uncovered it a few weeks ago. No growth, but I could see green stem coloration in some areas...it was still alive! It seems to be pushing up in the center slightly so I'm hopeful. I have 3 'African's that are in pots about 6" tall and just received two Mekong Giants about a foot tall ready to be put in the ground.
