I know of Silver Queen Palms being called Syagrus romanzoffiana var. litoralis and Syagrus litoralis. That name, Santa Catarina Syagrus, where is that from? Never seen it.

I figured it out after a horrible hard freeze in January of '010. It got down to 18F and half the queens in one yard died. The ones that had a white/gray colour to their trunk and petioles in places did not. Never even knew to look for the difference, that there was a difference.

They were more protected than the other ones that died but not enough to be the difference. 18F in the middle of the yard was still below 24F next to the house. Not THAT much of a difference.

All but one pygmy died too.
