Angry basjoo vs. horse

My basjoo, diameter at ground level of 3.25 inches, corm at time of planting 7 weeks ago of about 5.5 inches, had a run in yesterday with a horse that had gotten away from its owner.

The pstem must be broken to some degree, although I cannot see the damage. The damage must be underground I'm guessing. The plant has six leaves and cannot stand upright without support.

So far it shows no obvious signs of damage, apart from some torn leaves and the floppy pstem. Am I better off staking it up and letting it grow, if it will, or better cutting it down even with the ground and letting it grow back. Can it repair the pstem? If it can, will it be more prone to breaking off during a storm?
