Talking Jen in Florida

Hi everyone! I'm not really an "enthusiast" yet, because I don't really know anything about banana trees at all. But... we moved to Florida a few years ago and have gotten to know that banana trees are in almost every yard down here. I want to know specifically what type of bananas we have in our yard so that we know if and how we can eat them, when to tell if they are ripe, etc. I'll be taking some pictures in a few days to show everyone. I hope someone can help me. From what I saw on the internet it looked like they may be bluggoe? but then, I read somewhere that that isn't really a type of banana? I'm so very confused here. Can't wait to post pics so you all can help!
