Re: Seeds for Key Lime
Thanks JoeReal, both for the information and the offer of seeds. Anytime you have any seeds other than persian lime - I would be so happy to receive them as very few different varieties are available here. I will try to remember to contact you next September.
I have taken many cuttings from my Meyers lemon and passed them around locally as few lemons are available here and they are never available in the markets (apparently they grow them for export only in the centre of the island).
Citrus grow well here but the varieties grown (outside the commercial operations) are very poor and really not worth it. The oranges available locally are terrible - sour and dry. I can't understand why the better varieties haven't filtered down to the ordinary folk - so anything that I can grow that is a better variety I pass on to any Dominican who is interested in growing fruit of a good standard. Our gardeners now have a thriving plot filled with good bananas - and as soon as the lemons are big enough to take care of themselves - they can have some of those too. I also have a number of pink grapefruit seedlings that I will be passing around - these things should be more available here!
Thanks for your interest
Cassie
