Hello. Living in Zone 5, just about the only banana i could grow here is basjoo. Even then, i would have to cut it down at the end of the season and mulch it. So i was wondering, at what point in the growth of the banana do you get the edible banana "heart," the inside of the pseudo stem? most sources say that it is after flowering, but is this just because they don't want to sacrifice a plant before it gives fruit or something? If the banana doesn't have to flower,then at least i could get
something to eat at the end of the season.
