I read somewhere that a banana plant determines how many hands it will produce by 3-4 mos. That seems to be accurate according to my trials growing them. I do know that even if you get a large bunch, any stress on the host plant will negatively effect, either the size of individual hands or fingers or fruit quality of the bunch. That is why I don't remove any pups from the mats that I plan to collect any fruit from!
