These beds, while not 'raised' do have the concrete edging blocks puzzled together. We've also put in an underground steel landscape edging (hammered into the ground)-it is under the entire concrete edging blocks ... to help keep all things growing in their perspective areas (grass vs. bananas).
Range of depth in pics above is kind of deceiving. The smallest round bed has a diameter of 4', then the one next to it is about 5 1/2' diameter. While the larger one off by the Burr Oak is 6 3/4' diameter.

I have used similar edging blocks and each ring is about 5' in diameter, but it is certainly not that sophisticated and without underground edging than yours. You did a very good job. The reason why my plants have outgrown the rings is that I have allowed my mats to grow more than just one or two follower pups.
