My wife bought it for me not realizing it could not survive winter outside well. She bought it because its ad said it could grow in our zone. So originally it was supposed to be an outside plant. We had in inside last year under grow lighting. It is just too big to be in our apartment sized home now. I am putting it in the ground to help protect the corm from freezing. I also hope a plastic covered PVC frame will help save some of the stalk from freezing. At least an SDC is small enough to completely cover. Hopefully we have a milder winter than 2013 was. If my SDC survives I a second year guess I can then update my Biography line from just a Container SDC Hobbyist to a General SDC Hobbyist.
