My velutina and enano Gigante did that as well this spring, when we had a sudden cold snap (up here we call it a "Blackberry winter" - opposite of an Indian summer). I supposed it to be a jolt from the leaves suddenly stopping growth. Now that it's warm again, leaves are emerging normally again.
