We grow thousands of variegated bananas and have shipped hundreds of them to org members. Banana plants don't cost anything and sending free plants is just not a big deal.
When the USDA wants to add another variegated banana to their Tropical Research Station collection we send it to them for free and would never think of asking them to pay for the shipping.
