Mystery Fungus
I've posted pics on some Facebook Groups but without much luck in a positive ID. Maybe there's not going to be one, but figured I'd try here too
This plant is growing in a corner of a wall and a fence. It was doing great until this summer when I had some personal events that prevented me from paying as much attention to my plants as I should have and some tall grasses grew around this plant and up the fence around it. I think this may have caused too much shade or maybe a lack of air flow around it. This may be what lead to discovering Mushrooms growing on the Stems outer old leaves.
I peeled the old leaves off and the stem under them looked ok.
But the plant stopped thriving and wasn't putting out any new leaves. I eventually cut it in half, in hopes that if I cut it back, it will just send up new leaves from the center. It started to, but the new 'cigar' got about 5 or 6 inches tall and then started turning black.
I then cut it in half again and took some pics.
The Horizontal cut looks fairly clean and white. Unfortunately, the pics were an afterthought so they were taken about 10 minutes after cutting and therefore oxidation has already started.
I then cut it in half Lengthwise and the center leaf appears rotten and brown.
and sorry, I pulled out the center as the leaf around it looked a bit yellowish and I wanted to see what it looked like all the way around. So, the Center/core is now off centered in the pic... just so you don't look and wonder what you're looking at ;-)
There is a "Pup"/New plant to the right, that is currently taller than the sick one was before it got sick and is doing just fine. There's also a few new pups sprouting and I already removed one and planted it somewhere with more Air circulation and space.
Any help, Advice or ideas are appreciated.
TIA
