Are you making sure the crowns are staying full of water? You don't water them everyday, but you do when their crowns are getting low on water. That is where most of it's water consumption comes from. You might be letting them get too dry and they're drying out. In very hot weather you may have to water them everyday. Also, most species don't like direct sunlight but some wont hurt them (like morning/evening sun for a few short hours), yet there are exceptions, the pineapple for example. The way I've been succesful at figuring out which is which is it seems if they have thorns on the leaves, they like direct sun. Have you had any pups come up from them?
