Default Re: banana root propagation.

Hi Daz,

I have my Red Tiger planted against a south facing fence in the ground direct (no pot).

In November, after the first frosts had damaged the leaves I trimmed everything back to the main stem (about five feet high in one season!).

I then wrapped several thick layers of garden fleece around from the bottom to the top. The top part was only slightly fleeced. Another thing I did was place a very thick old curtain around the roots and new pups.

Temp got down to minus 5 here!

Lo and behold new growth shoved up the fleece and is about one foot long now! I have taken the top part fleece off to let it breath and look around the garden. Still have kept the main fleece on and taken up the curtain to let the pups look around as well!

As its warm down here at the moment (no frost) I will keep an eye on any late frosts before removing all fleece.

If new pups grow from the root cuttings then yes I can spread the pups, but still awaiting an expert on this.
