Just came back from PR. Puerto Rico must be an indian name for "Banana Heaven". Man they had bananas growing everywhere. Even tons of 50ft tall Muso Bamboo...
ANywho, I'm trying to identify a banana I ate their and would just love to grow for myself. Between eating buckets of mangos during the day and drowning myself in the Don Que rum at night, I must admit, I didn't much in the way of being ready for this question. I know, a picture would have been nice. But maybe someone can help me anyways.
Anyways I bought a hand of bananas at the local Walmart and I thought they were the Chakita common variety. But when I got back to my pad I noticed that they were similar in length and color, but they were much beefier. Fact is, they probably out-weighed a Chakita banana by 20% for the same length.
But the thing that really got my attention is that they had a tart, crisp flavor to them. ALmsot like apple or something.
I'd love to grow these things, most desert bananas are a bit too sweet for my "old guy" palate.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
