The ones I didn't soak had a very low germination rate (probably under 10%)

You could also try the plastic bag method (as described on www.exoticpalmseeds.com).
I haven't tried it, but some have had over 80% germination using this method.

If you order from banana-tree.com, I had best success with their Ensete glaucum, Ensete ventricosum, Musella lasiocarpa, Musa acuminata (sprouts look like velutina), and Musa ornata. I had 0% germination on most species/varieties I tried unfortunately
