Default Re: Gros Michel bloom!

Wow! Someone still has Gros Michel. That was my first banana, about 30 years ago. At, that time all I knew was that they were bananas, and I thought it might be cool to grow some here. We were in St. Lucia, at my wife's boss' vacation house, and he arranged for me to get a couple of corms to bring back. I planted them in big redwood tubs, and had them in a rec room, in front of sliding glass patio doors. When they started pushing the tiles out of the suspended ceiling, we decided they had to go, so we brought them to the boss (mentioed above) who had an indoor pool. They thrived there, and even had fruit.
Since then, Ive read stories that all the Gros Michel in the world had been destroyed by Panama Disease, or something like it, many years prior to that. Obviously, that was wrong.
Here's a picture of me (about a hundred years ago), with a bunch of Gros Michel.
