My addiction!
First I must say my wife is really understanding. Before someone chimes in that some of us need spousal approval, it's not that. Money is not the object. It's the willingness to share in what I enjoy. With that said --
On Friday I left Santa Barbara, CA at 6:00 AM and headed down to San Diego. My first stop was at a palm nursery. I purchased 4 Kentia palms in 10 gallon pots at 6 to 7 feet tall. They were $40.00 each (they would be $200 + here in SB).
Next I drove to a person with an extensive palm and banana collection. I picked up a 2-pink, 2-red, and 2-lavender non fruiting bananas ($30.00) and a Bamboo.
I then drove to a private nursery and picked up 2 fifteen foot Queen palms ($20.00 each), 1 ten foot Giant Bird of paradise ($20.00), 3 six foot plus Brazilian Tower trees ($20.00 each), and a free dwarf banana.
Then I drove to Fullerton and went to the California Rare Fruit Growers Association Festival of Fruit. I picked up a small Dwarf Namhwah from Jon ($25.00). Great looking plant - thanks Jon. I then picked up a five foot Star Fruit ($150.00), and then 9 one gallon bananas- 2-Kru, 2- Nang Phaya, 2- Glui Kai, 2-FHIA 3640 and 1-Dwarf Red Green. These plants came from Steve Spangler from Exotica in Vista, CA. I then drove home. 500 miles later I have more cool plants. Now if you think I am crazy, wait. On Sunday I went to the Santa Barbara Horticultures annual plant sale. I pcked up 3 very cool Neoregelia Bromeliads ($35.00), 8 very cool large 4-foot tall ferns ($8.00), 3 variegated Aspidistra ($10.00 each), 1-three foot Licuala Ramsajii palm ($75.00). It was a great plant weekend! I could have a worse addiction. I do, it's the car collecting my wife does not like to share with me.
