Here in San Diego county, there is great fear about the spread of the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The USDA has responded by sending dozens of inspection agents to the southern CA area to assist with inspection and eradication. I met one yesterday who was patrolling a local farmers market. He said they now have additional agents in customs areas and package distribution centers of the post office and other carriers. There are scanning systems installed there which were originally in place for drug detection. Now if something comes up positive for vegetative material without a phyto-certificate on the outside, it is sent off for further inspection.
