Here's the answer; this plant in question is actually the
Musa balbisiana in its
Variegated form as I have verified in another thread. Next, it is pronounced as
Tharn Nee though spelt as Kluay Tanee. The other similar Thai word, Thani - pronounced Tarn Nee - means a rural town. Eg., Surat Thani.
Tanee is the name of a female ghost which according to Thai folklore resides within the plant.
