Default Re: Southern California banana lover

Thanks to everyone for the hearty gone bananas welcome! Great news! Two plants have already begun to eke a new leaf out. Looks like the transplanting has succeeded. Am keeping fingers crossed that the Golden keiki survives, and her mama doesn't seem any improved.

My area has had an extremely mild winter, and the neighborhood banana trees are in full-fruit mode. I am hoping that next year I can report that my plantation is like-wise endowed. I read up on the seed propagation; whew! too much science for this girl. I will give it a go, anyways.

Ha ha ha, yes, Richard! "It's a Small World" is so held in disdain in OC. Why do we hate that song SO much? Well, they re-did the ride, and it just reopened last week... probably still has that song! Two of my kids worked there, and both hated that attraction. I myself liked it, especially the tropical "worlds" and the banana trees...

I am surprised to hear that bananas are doing so well in West LA, as it's so much closer to the beach (maybe 10 degrees cooler than my house!), but that is great to know, Momoese.

I moved back up here from San Diego a few years ago.... nearly all things tropical grew very, very well for me there. The one thing is messed up was getting my bananas to fruit. Of course, that was before I knew about this great site!

Thanks again for the welcome. I'm a know-nothing, but hope to become a future banana guru someday... Off to explore the place now. See you laters, barb
