Did anyone have to do this after you stopped satellite service?? There was nothing in small print saying I had to do this. I am going to complain & tell them to come & get it. And, they are giving me one month to ship. I am P O'd

Yeah, the "take it down thing" is a common complaint on the boards that discuss satellite TV issues. I think you have no choice. And keep proof that you shipped the stuff back.
But if I told you my Verizon DSL story you'd be amazed at their incompetence too. Bottom line -- after a few weeks of Verizon unable to hook us up (yet billing us for it!) we ended up getting internet via the cable company ... without cable TV since we watch so little TV it wasn't worth it. (No FiOS here yet, but Dad has it.) What a world!
I second the Craig's List idea for the dish itself. There are people who might pay a few $. Besides those already mentioned, amateur radio (ham) folks who play in certain frequencies come to mind. If FiOS & DVRs are news to you, you'd really trip to find out that some people talk to each other on opposite sides of Earth by reflecting their signals off the moon.
