Default Cold hardy Cacti in pots!

We will be living in Wilmington NC pretty soon which is a warmer zone 8 NC then where we are now. Most of my cacti I grew in the ground in Ohio. So they have not been living in pots more then a year. Question is that as long as the soil in the pots can drain perfect then the cactus should be able to live outside no problem in the pots. I would keep them under something for the rain most likely. They survived living in my unheated garage in ohio, Which got done to zero and below for a couple weeks. Then just plan cold all last year for the winter. Thanks
