Texas Mystery Nanas
 

This group of nanas - 4 large clumps growing in a very narrow strip of earth.



Are the target of a rescue mission - I would love to know what type they are. Each clump is fruiting! To my untrained eye they all look the same.

I am thinking that they may be ...‘Orinoco’- Probably the most common banana grown all along the Gulf Coast. Reliably produces medium-sized fruits (4”-6”) that can either be cooked when green or allowed to fully ripen and eaten out of hand. (copied from the wiki).

And that they are not ripe, and from the way the stalk is damaged on some of them they may not ripen.

Any other ideas?

OK cool have the bed composted, and ready for them. If they can do that in the lousy place they live, the 2 easy to access pups should spring to life and thrive.

Very nice plants. Most people around here grow Orinocos too. I think they make their way up from Louisiana around these parts. People commonly share pups with their friends. If you see a banana around here, it's very likely it will be an Orinoco.
