![]() The plant is about 7 yrs in its present spot. Flowers would be nice but I'm not getting my hopes up, I don't feel as ambitious with p-stem protection this fall.
PS-- it looks like they will reach Halloween this year without a significant freeze beforehand. That's a first for me. |

My plants went to max size and then the pups subsequently took over to start the mat over again. The cycle was about 4 years for me. I had a local late freeze this spring .......so I think I will have all 6 footers. Last edited by cincinnana : 06-13-2022 at 08:15 AM. |

I have twice gotten basjoos to plant at my parents' house, and both times they died when I planted them in ground into a full sun location, even after having hardened them a bit first. I'm hoping this year's one survives after longer period of hardening, but it's still quite small and slow! |

have you ever rode by a cornfield and noticed the outside edges dont grow as well as a few feet in? have ever watched a video of a banana plantation? and notice the bananas dont do as well on the outside edges as apposed to the inside? sun and heat. pretty much the same thing. but my friend, when they say plant in FULL SUN.........well, tongue in cheek? i need to edit this one and add what i was trying to say,,,, so; sometimes sun and heat can make a large difference too. and i will repeat what cincinnana said location, mulch, fertilizer makes a large difference.
