Ok, I'm leaving a clump of 'Rojo' in the ground over winter while keeping a potted one indoors.

I'm doing this mostly on the reported success "Brent and Becky" have given in their bulbs catalogue.

I plan to mulch and protect the stems but haven't decided yet on how I'm going to do it; wrap or whether to do a leaf-filled cage.

Anyway, it's too late now, I'm leaving them where they are, but I'm interested in hearing any success reports or lack thereof that people have in zone 7.

This is the only banana I've lost to cold weather (twice) in Charleston, SC. I protected corm with pine straw (which is more than I do for any other banana) and it still died. Best of luck, I hope you protect better than I do.

I planted the plant(s) fairly deeply, and will add some temporary soil and mulch over what is usually there. Unfortunately the plants aren't near a structure that might add some protection.

I've been very lucky with things coming back that I never expected to, so maybe I'll be lucky. {emoticon of banana crossing its fingers, if i could fine one}

Still, you're warmer there than we are here............so it's a gamble. {Emoticon of nanner rolloing dice, if I could find one.}

I mulched the bunch with over two feet of woodchips, and that with the winter wet that accumulated killed them all.

Perhaps if I had covered the mulch with a tarp to keep the water off, they might have had a chance....maybe just too cold here unless situated near a south-facing brick or stone wall....in a good warmish micro.....

O well. I kept a pup over indoors, so all wasn't lost.
