Musa 'Gran Nain'

I just received a gran nain banana yesterday in the mail. I ordered it from a company called Green Earth that is in Melbourne Florida. I'm really excited about growing this plant and loving how fast I received it!

I live in zone 6 so I am going to be at the mercy of growing this in a pot. I have it sitting over a vent by a southwest window. I know it will get some sun and warmth. Nothing like the summer humidity it will get this summer but its the best I have for it.

What I am wanting to know is how do I raise this plant until its time to take it outdoors? Around here that usually Mothers day weekend.
So:
How often should I water?
Should I give it fertilizer and what kind?

I haven't watered it yet because the rootball felt moist. I thought about giving it a good drink and not water again for a couple of weeks and then thought I'll ask here. I'll post a picture later today.

Let it dry out between watering and don't water too much. This time of year they go dormant and don't use much water, over watering will rot the roots.

Mine are stored in the basement, some in pots but most are bare root and get no water until I take them out to plant.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably store it next year, but since I just got it this the other day I want to get it going but will also take it easy it too.

no fert til it goes outside! Hot dry air blowing directly on it is not good. misting will help. shine a light on it if you can. You are just trying to keep it alive while dormant over winter in zone 6 so, it does not need watering near as much now, maybe 7 to 10 days apart depending on your soil. watch closely for bugs on leaves. can be real small so you won't see them til they are an army. Helps to periodically gently wipe both sides of the leaves with a clean warm damp cloth. Good luck!!!!!!!

Your plant was just taken out of a nice warm greenhouse.
You will have to duplicate that at home possibly with a grow light and some added warmth.

It is a good thing the plant is small and manageable.
