Narrow leaves after a spell of cold and frost. Is that an issue?
This is my maiden post on the forum.
I planted grand naine bananas in Northern India, where plantation happens in July when the temperature is around 27C/ 80F. However, as December comes minimum temperature falls to 4C/40F. The spell normally remains for 2 months until the end of January when it starts to warm a little to 10C/33F. This year the spell of cold was a little longer. During the cold spell, the plants generally develop yellow/ brown spots and lower leaves start drying. Here are some pictures from winters. Plants in backround also show other leaves Here is how the plant after winters, leaves starting to show up in feb Sword like leaves after winters, is that indicative of an issue?: In addition, the roots are not always white but older roots are light brownish but firm. Is that also a problem? |

your plants look good after a winters nap.
with my minimal experience and with my travels in this forum I will say the spear leaves are the preferred leaf on young bananas, so they are healthy. they will go to normal when they get larger. my temps are a bit cooler than yours so right now your nains look better than mine.

It is totally normal to have messed up, Misshaped, thin, fragile, deformed, or discolored leaves after cold weather. My theory is that the stressed leaf inside the pstem gets interrupted by the cold then has to be pushed out of the plant when the normal growth starts back up. Sometimes the new growth will just push out next to the old growth leaving it still half inside the pstem.
But just overlook the first 1-2 leaves after some cold damage! Your plants will be back to normal and looking good very soon!
