![]() Hey y’all
So I was shopping at Lowe’s yesterday when I stumbled upon a variegated musa basjoo. It looks like all of the variegated spots are more fragile and susceptible to sunburn, so I have it hanging out in a shady spot and will probably plant it there as well. But just wanted to share my find and plan to update the thread as it grows and hopefully it will stay variegated. ![]() First leaf to unfurl since coming home with me 8786A6AC-8085-4CF2-B667-B77BED517276.jpeg
Looks more lemon lime variegated instead of white and green, but I’m still thrilled to have it! |

![]() Update
So even tho it seems as tho it was getting too much sun on the leaf it put out last week, so I moved it to the shadiest part of my backyard and planted it. Even the new leaf from this week was starting to show a little sunburn CB3E317C-5165-4F7E-98E9-26A0C40931DF.jpeg this weeks new leaf BADABEEB-9F06-44F1-988D-E40073470B60.jpeg last weeks new leaf |

![]() That sunburn is nothing check out my Variegated Florida, it's the variegated portions without chlorophyll that are susceptible to sunburn.
Mine is also in my 'shadiest' part but still gets direct sun for half the day. I think any variegated banana would like indirect sun if possible. I planted mine in between my Orinocos bananas which grow tall and fast so they should provide shade soon.

Variegated basjoo update It seems like the leaves are getting better at resisting sunburn, unfortunately it seems like it’s growth has slowed since moving to the shade. Also featured in the pic are two tiny bordelon pups that I bought from Etsy that have taken months to show new growth but are finally moving along |

That is a really cool plant! Congrats on your find. I hope you continue to keep us updated. I think you have planted those three plants WAY too close together though. It's going to be a crowded jungle in a couple of years! I would move the two bordelons and let that variegated basjoo have its own spot with no competition. |

I tried to rehab it by putting it into a pot and giving it just morning sunshine and then moving back to the shade before noon, but it was too late. Those two bordelons will eventually be moved to a sunnier location, they were originally there to help shade and protect the variegated baby |
