![]() What temps should I stop watering my bananas for the winter? And how long can they last? My winters usually last about 5 months in zone 7A. I heard water kills bananas when they’re dormant so I’m trying to figure out when to cover them up. I’ve heard once temps drop below 55° F they go dormant but mine are still growing.
Growing Basjoo, Dwarf Orinoco, and Velutina. |

Lots of end of season decisions ![]() You may stop watering your plants the grow season is over because our plants will not be able use it. There is still ample moisture in the soil to carry yuor plants through till spring. Once daylight hours for northern zones shorten up your plants know it's time to pull back. After a few hard frosts you may cut and cover your plants if you wish My observation with inground Basjoo is as long as the ground temperature is higher than the ambient air temperature and the plant has minimal frost damage the plants will still grow. Orinoco are similiar. Velutina? Is this helpful? Last edited by cincinnana : 12-17-2022 at 10:23 AM. Reason: tipo |

![]() My basjoo never really stop growing, they just slow to a snails pace.
Even after a frost of they lose all the leaves, in a week or so a new cigar will start to pop up |
