Bananas grown in Paragould, AR
 

Austin, I went down the road and talked to the guy who had the bananas on and he let me scan his photos to show them on here. He doesn't know what kind of nanner it is and I was hoping that someone may be able to help. In the pictures you can see him and his wife and the wonderful nanners!! Looks like Orinoco to me. Why did they cut em' down? Were they expecting frost?

Yep, that was going to be my guess, Orinoco. The angular fruit and how tall the plants are. :bananas_b

Shannon, wow, those are very impressive fruits!!! With our long, hot summers, we have a decent chance for our bananas to flower and fruit. Like Pete thinks, I believe they are Orinocos. Could you remind me how they are overwintered? Are they dug up or left in the ground with mulch? Do your neighbors get fruit every year? Totally awesome!

He gets bananas every year. He has them staged to where he get 3 to bloom every year. To overwinter he digs them up and puts them in his spair bedroom with the heat cut off to the room. He could not find the picture but he told me that this past winter he had one that was to big to put in the room so he put in the hall way and while in the hall it flowered and bloomed and had 50 yellow bananas put on. He also told me that all he uses for fertilizer is 13-13-13. The ground that he puts them in is clay soil, nothing else.
