![]() Somebody that does a lot of business with Agristarts needs to put a little pressure on them to standardize their variety names. Their misi luki is not really misi luki, and their ice cream is not really ice cream. I thought me and my 2000 plants was a big deal but there are nurseries that do that many each and every month.

![]() Just went out to look at my bananas. Pink edges on the leaves of the sword suckers.
If it is actually Namwah instead of a Blue Java as some on this thread are implying - how cold hardy is Namwah since the wiki says zone 9 and how fast of a fruiter is it. The psuedostems on the mat in my backyard survived the sub 20F temps last winter that killed my Cavendish to the ground. This mat also produced fruit 11 months from planting. I bought it last year up at Davis Nursery in Summerdale as a two foot tall plant. Here's the mat, fruit and flower if it helps to determine what it really is. The psuedostem with the bunch on it, this is its 1st year fruiting and only has four leaves on it that came out before fruiting. The camera flash blew out the colors, but there is a bluish powder on the fruit and undersides of the leaves.

![]() Amanda, I'm pretty sure yours is a "Namwah" (Pisang Awak subgroup) based on fruit color, bud shape, bract color, etc. That is probably good news if you are looking for a tough, cold-hardy plant. Namwahs are among the toughest and they make tasty fruit.

![]() Amanda,
If you get rid of any pups I'd love to get one. Live in Pensacola and could drive over. Also if you are looking to expand your selection I will have some pups next spring. I am not sure of the identification on all of mine. Many I received from Hydroid. I may have some Dwarf Namwah pups next year.

![]() I just now found this post, don't know how I missed it. Amanda, I got my Ice Cream from Davis Nursery also, and if yours is Namwah than mine must be Namwah too. Charlie, this means you probably got a Namwah also.
That means I must have a yard full of Namwahs. I wonder what they sold me for the Goldfinger? Bo |

![]() Thanks Randy, I think it's really Goldfinger since it looks different from anything else I have and I think it has those red stains.

![]() Bo and all,
My suspected Ice Cream is starting to bloom so we'll know soon. I'll try to psot some pictures. My "Goldfinger" leaf midrib has a reddish hue to it when viewed from the bottom. Does that sound right? It also has an open petiole. I spelled that wrong I think.

By the way, the flower bud is edible if you want to put the work into preparing it after you cut it off when the male flowers appear. Makes a decent bowl of ginataang puso ng saging.

![]() Its just tagalog for "banana blossom in coconut cream." If you Google the tagalog spelling, there's plenty of recipes for it online. Both Publix and Winn-Dixie sell everything to make it (except for the banana blossom of course).

![]() Oh no, All this time I've been paranoid, but convinced that my ice cream banana was the real thing, but now IM not so sure. Heres a pic of one of the emerging leaves on the pups. Its clearly red on the edge! Sorry its not a great pic, I literally took this pic in pitch darkness about 5 minutes ago. haha
![]() Here's what it looked like late October 2011. Any guesses on what it might really be? I'd be happy with a Namwah. ![]() I would have posted this on a new thread, but this thread is what made me realize that I may not have an Ice cream!
