Brown Banana plant?
Ever heard of a Brown Banana? Old man I ran into said he has been growing banana plants for 30 years. Said every year he gets banana's. He did say he brings some of them in his garage to keep the p-stems. He called them Brown Banana plants, said it has been giving him fruit for years. He emailed me pictures and I can't tell what it is. As far as the type. I'm not good at posting pics on here. He said he would send me full pics of them. They usually get 12-15ft tall I think he said. Also said he has yellow banana plants not sure he said it got fruit. Only one I know is the chinese yellow which gets a flower thats it. The leaves have no markings on them and are are kinds rough and curl up on the sides.

Re: Brown Banana plant?
Yes I know. Maybe once I see pics of the whole plants 12ft tall then we can tell. A guy at a well know nursery claims this big bunch of banana plants he has. Our cavendish, which they are only 6ft tall but don't have any markings on them at all. I had four foot plants that still had alittle purple on the leaves. He has had them in there landscape for years and just cuts them down. They always come back. His area gets hit with alot of frost and cold snaps because of it being a low lying area. He is like 45mins away. Even me living a few miles from the ocean and a huge river don't think they would survive for me. So I think his were maybe crossed with something else to make them extra hardy?

Re: Brown Banana plant?
Sent Gabe the pics. Hope they aren't Orconios as this would have been a waste. But like I said they don't look like mine at all. But soil,age,shade/full sun, morph can make plants look different enough. I'm a cactus guy also and I have about 50 cacti and same are from the same plant but they still look different. Mother plant is older and has less spines and cut pad that grew into a plant has longer or more spines through out. :lurk:

The best thing to do in your case is to post photos since these common names are not going to lead anywhere. |

Re: Brown Banana plant?
One picture makes them look like plastic leaves. I know this old man isn't making this up. He is really nice and down to earth and emailed me other pictures of bushes or flowers he grows. I met him through my Master Gardeners Class in school. My teacher brought up to the class I grew banana plants and stored them in the winter. After class this guy came up to me and we talked about his nanners.
