Do Saba pups ever have sploched leaves?

I have a "SABA" from a vendor, that has a long post here, and it has a few faint splotches on one of the leaves. Did they make another mistake and mis-label this one? My other sabas are larger, and I don't ever remember any color on the leaves. Whadaya think?
Thanks,

They should not have any leaf splotches. Are they reddish or a different color?

I just rechecked my Saba, and there is NOsign of red in the leaves.

These are 2 pics of the top side of the leaf:

Here is the underside:

And another Saba, but older from a more reputable supplier:

So is it a Saba? If not(DAMN, IT'S ALREADY BEEN GROWING IN THE GROUND!), what var do you think it is?

Thanks,

 If your plant is very young and the juvenile leaves are marked , IMO,
It just could be juvenile leaves as I have had some do.

Among some of mine I had a young apple banana faintly resemble a Zabrina var. until the adult leaves appeared.:)

Yes, the plant is young. Maybe they are juvie leaves. Since then it has popped out a huge all green leaves. Maybe this one is SABA. I sure hope so. The blotches are really faint, and hopefully gone for good. I look forward to a couple of 25 footers.

 :D 25 ft is gooood

I have no chance of getting them that tall in zone 5.

What is so special about Saba ?

Inquiring minds want to know

IT'S GIGANTIC! Leaves as big as surfboards, a 18-24" diameter trunk, 20-25' pseudostem. Here in the SW FL, easily the fastest growing nana. Great tasting cooking nanas.

It make a statement in the garden. LOL

 Hey thanks. Sounds wonderful but would be too much for me to manage up here.

Unless they pup fast and I could start anew every Spring.

Post lotsa pics of yours :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sabas trunks are oblong...not completely round. As the pup growws wrap your hands around both plants...if it is evenly round..not a saba.

Scooterbug-

I knew nothing about "Saba" before visiting Pitangadiego's place a few weeks ago. This plant is a true sky-scraper!!! Amazing!

Well, I will say that last picture, your leaves look like my Saba leaves that I got from Gabe. I will be digging it up and bringing it in for the winter this year. I have been happy with its growth rate, once it got started. Its turning into one of my most favorite banana plants ( but thats hard to say, because I like all of them)

I've found quite a few of my juvinile nanners with faint splotches on the leaves - even my young saba, IIRC. They seem to work their way out as the nanner matures. If it still has splotches on the leaves when it's 25' tall, I'd start to worry. :) Hee - anyone know of a 25' tall sumatrana? :2749:
