How often do you guys fertilize your basjoo's and how much do you give them? Powder or liquid? Just want to get this right to grow the biggest basjoo's. I have 6 more coming Wednesday, for a total of 8!!!

Whatever you want as long as they are activily growing. Its hard to overfeed them.

Best to do a balanced blend feed?

Re: Fertilizing schedule
Top feed them with organic mater such as compost. I steer clear of the chemicals.:dreadlocksnaner:

Liquid fertilizers and liquid-soluble powders are readily absorbed by plants. Granular fertilizers take longer to break down but usually offer more nutrients. |
Re: Fertilizing schedule
I have been using big organic fertilizer spikes 5-2-4 with micros. 3 spikes per plant every month in my greenhouse potted bananas. The results have been outstanding. A company I consult for in Washington started manufacturing the spikes last year and my greenhouse and an organic tomato growers greenhouse were used as test plots. I listed them on my eBay store, here's the link if you want to look at them.

Re: Fertilizing schedule
I give about a cup of 10-10-10 per month. I can get 40 lb bags at lowes for about 5 dollars. I have since gotten chickens and I don't want them to eat the fertilizer so I won't use any this year. Maybe horse manure.

Re: Fertilizing schedule
Chickens will not eat the fertilizer, so go ahead. I am trying chicken fertilizer on one of my naners and spraying a home brew on others.

Re: Fertilizing schedule
Horse manure is another good choice. For fruiting naners and fruit trees in general you'll need about 3.5 cubic feet per year. Essentially, it is your mulch.
