Hummingbirds on Banana blooms?

Has any one else had hummingbirds visit their banana blooms? I think I saw one on my Orinoco a couple days ago. When the bloom first opened around the first of October I tasted the fluid leaking from the blooms and it was very sweet. I would think hummingbirds would love it. I'm sure bees and wasps do as there is always about twenty of them around the bud.

Randy thanks for posting those. I went ahead and viewed all of the other photos too. Some I've seen but ALL are incredible. I especially loved the Japanese Maple. If you have extra Red Castor Bean seeds, I'd like to get some if you share or sell them. I'm hoping to achieve something similiar to your garden but I'll have to retire first. You've done an amazing job.

Thanks so much for the compliments, Darkman... I believe I may have some extra castor seeds. Just pm me and I will be happy to share if I still have any left... As far as the J.Maple, it was a BIG selling point for me when we purchased this house in 2003!!!! LOL That and the pool! Lots have changed out back by the pool since then, but I knew what I wanted to do when I first saw the pool and potential with the yard around it...I know they are not very good pics, but the best I can find... Sure wish I would have done a better job of documenting the transition of the backyard...

Randy ------------- great pic of the H-bird. I'm gonna start looking for them with camera at the ready. Did you take that with a zoom setting?

Charles ------------- I harvested a bunch of Black Jungle butter bean seeds this year. Want some? Cooked up the first fresh harvest with some smoked ham and they were great. They remind me of good ol' diner food back in Charlotte, NC.

I did a little research on the Black Jungle butter bean.

It might take over my garden. LOL I'm thinking the west side of my garden (which has a six foot privacy fence) may be a good spot for them. I'll shoot you a PM soon.

Last Wednesday I cooked up some pink eyed purple hulls, baby limas, green beans, collard greens and okra (slimy of course). Everything was cooked and seasoned with smoked ham hocks and pork neck bones. All veggies were from this years garden. To round off the meal we had cornbread and fried chicken. Desert was a homemade lemon pie. Next year the lemon will come from my garden too.

It doesn't get any better!

I almost forgot we had a big, juicy and sweet watermelon fresh picked too.
