![]() I have had this plant in the ground for around four years. It got huge in the partial shade and grew above my house. The leaves were fifteen feet long and huge. I noticed this last weekend the leaves looked all dead. I thought the little bastard gophers got it but then noticed a huge flower

![]() No! She will be cut down once the flower goes away. I will need a chain saw. It's a fricken tree! I'm not sure how tall my roof is but it must be 15 plus feet tall......
I just climbed back on the roof. It's 16 feet 6 inches tall!

![]() WOW Andrew!! You could perhaps try the "forced pupping" with your maurelii....I think it was Sandy (NOrthern Tropics) on here who had a post about that, and she got a lot of pups! I got my maurelii from her....it was much bigger than I even expected, and I just love it! Wow...a maurelii that big, do you have any pics of it before the leaves died?

![]() Is it normal for the leaves to die BEFORE it flowers?

![]() I have seen it both ways. A few years ago I posted a picture of one flowering at a nursery in Carpinteria (~10 miles from me) and it had leaves. Mine has been loosing the leaves for a few weeks and I thought it must be flowering or the stupid cold was affecting it. Once I went on my roof I saw the flower. If you look down the flower you can see very small immature fruit. I will try to take more pictures.

![]() BadPun also had one flower in his yard this past fall. It was massive, at least as tall as Andrew's and at least 4' in circumference, and had all its leaves while in flower -- as have the few others I've seen in flower. They look like plant monsters when in bloom, think "feed me Seymour"!

![]() If you get a chance, please try and cross it with a Musella lasiocarpa. Sometimes it is classified as an Ensete and a hybrid would be more cold-hardy than pure E. Maurelei.
