My Variegated Florida finally growing

I was able to snag a Variegated Florida pup a little over a month ago. Because of shipping I received the rhizome with a cut stem.

I was getting a little worried as the weeks passed as it looked completely dead but the seller was really helpful and answered my questions and concerns. He had me check for root growth and sure enough there was quite a bit so it put me at ease.

After nearly a month, the banana said "It's Time..." and completely EXPLODED in growth. It burst out of the old dead stem and grew 4 inches in 2 days.

I really want to ensure I follow the right steps to make it grow and mature.

Should I continue to keep the plant shaded and only give it partial sun? and for how long?
And how big should I let it grow in the pot until it is safe to transplant in the ground in full sun?

It's been very hot here in Texas lately, in the 90s and my other banana plants leaves droop easily with the heat so I know I have to be careful especially since it's a variegated variety.

Beautiful plant. You are definitely getting great growth. Depending on how much humidity you have in your area you might want to keep it in part sun. Or else the white areas will burn. Good luck.

Thanks! It does in fact produce edible sweet bananas - and they're also striped like the plant! I can't wait to try them out one day.

I was able to snag it on Ebay, you can find them there but they almost always get listed for auction sale only. So I had to get into several bidding wars until I was able to win this one for a great price - for a variegated banana that is.

Thanks for the advice! And yes it's definitely HOT & Humid here, I'm still only giving early morning sun for now and then it's in the shade.

Here she is now! Strong winds this week shredded one of the leaves but still looks beautiful.

I think it's just about ready to go on the ground :08:

Agreed, it's amazing how fast they can grow especially when taken care of! That's my favorite part of growing bananas :bananarow:
Thanks!

Stunning plant! Where did you get it? I know you bought from Ebay, but did it come from the states or overseas? I just ordered one from ETSY and it comes from Indonesia.. Im hoping it turns out half as beautiful as yours!

The Ebay seller was from Puerto Rico and shipping only took 6 days. As long as they send you a good healthy rhizome you should be able to grow a beautiful plant as well! Good Luck! :nanadrink:
