![]() That's very interesting Harvey.
Were you able to see Pitangdiego while you were in San Diego? I emailed him but he did not answer back.

![]() Thanks a lot Harvey. I am very grateful. Khandarin is just as good as senorita or very close to it because of its fast closeness of ripening. Very fast.
I'll wait for your email how we can settle the cost. Thanks. Benny

![]() Thanks for the welcome. Our growing season is close, but just a little short for most fruiting bananas. I am trying the 3 varieties mentioned in an attempt to actually "eat" a banana grown here. :-). Stokes Tropicals is right down the road, so I will be opening my experimentation more on the banana side. Got 3 acres so why not.

![]() I got two dwarf orinoco in the mail today!! I'm so excited. I expected just a stick but they're beautiful .. one with three leaves with another sprouting out and the other one has four leaves. Both have a thick root system and came with a fertilizer spike in each. My first banana plants!
![]() I ordered them before I found out that I won't get fruit without a green house but I have what?... 3 years to get that green house built? I'll get the ornamentals to plant in the yard. I'll plant them in pots tomorrow and post pics! They'll be in the tub with the lemons for now. ![]() Deb |

Time to put the bananas to sleep for the Winter You indeed can get nanners without a greenhouse. It takes a bit of work, but it's possible. Of course, don't plant your new nanner in the ground just yet - plant it out, if you want, in the Spring and give it a good year's growth. Then dig it up before the first hard freeze comes, and stow it in a cool place that stays fairly reliably around 55-57F and more often than not it'll overwinter there just fine. There is a percentage of loss - so get a few more growing in your patch. Have fun, Mike Zone 8 - too warm for that trick... |

![]() cookie, make sure when you plant your babies that you do it in a well draining potting MIX. if the dirt is to heavy it will hold to much water and your babies roots could rot. wasnt sure if you had knew about the soil for drainage. dont want your babies to have wet feet. it you have questions about the soil post a note and the good people here can tell you their preferences for their soil.

![]() Mikevan ... that thread you gave me is amazing! Thank you and thanks to Bigdog for the step by step instructions. I have it bookmarked.
Kitty... thanks for the advice on drainage. My hubby brought home two big bags of miracle grow potting mix. Normally I use whatever I can get the cheapest and in the biggest bags but didn't want to take any chances on these babies! Reading about everyone in college is making me yearn for higher education! Congrats on the good grades. I haven't been able to be on much with Christmas getting close. Baking and shopping. Merry Christmas to all! ![]() Deb |

I have a friend on my Taro-and-Ti Yahoogroup who is developing that system to grow a number of plants including taro and bananas and I may also experiment with it too. Be well, Mike |

![]() Mike that was really interesting! I just scratched the surface with the aquaponics links from one of those sites. I can't think of anything more cool than a set up like that!! If I can spark my husbands interest in it, we already have what could be the fish tank on our back deck. A few years ago he built what I lovingly refer to as his "red-neck" hot tub. A small stock tank with an old swimming pool pump hooked up to the jets he installed with the deck around it. NO he never uses it... LOL
OK.. new 'backyard deck thoughts' to sit and ponder over the winter!! ![]() |
