Congratulations 75! 33 fingers! That is truly impressive. Please post up a photo of the bunch when it is more filled and closer to harvest. Would love to see how big those fingers get.

OK, so its not actually my garden, its a friend's in town, but it is still pretty exciting to see this relatively large basjoo mat, 3rd season in the ground, pushing a flower.





Maybe a dumb couple of questions, but I am wondering if

1) they are self fertile given that female and male flowers come out at different times and

2) how long might it take for the fruit to mature - I am hoping to score some seeds

This plant gets all day sun, literally from dawn to dusk, the days are pretty long up here this time of year and the daytime temps will be good for the next 2 months with night time temps cooling off (dipping below 50 degrees) towards the end of August . Might there be a possibility he will see mature fruit?

Since this thread got bumped...the Dwarf Brazilian I picked up last September is fruiting for the first time. 7.5 hands, pretty decent I think for the first go round.

Thanks! It's right at 8 feet, though my bananas seem to get a little taller than most for some reason. I believe the forum member I got it from said his usually flower at 6-7 ft.

Pending the taste of the fruit, DB seems like a real winner. It's a fast grower that seems to do well in dry soil, and it didn't take any damage at all last winter.

IT has been a cool spring.Only a few days above 70f but the Goldfinger doesn't seem to mind.

The bud was 23 inches long. The fingers are pretty long in comparison with my other banana plants. The first hand contains 16 fingers.

My Patupi is flowering in January (lol) at about 7 feet!





Last night was the coldest night of the year so far at 39F and it seems to have made it through fine without any protection. Who knows if the bunch will make it through winter...
