I should start by thanking everyone on here for making this a pretty great place! I was rather reluctant to search for banana forums doubting one existed yet here it is! Very cool!

I've come on here in hopes of gathering information in regards to importanting organic, very high quality bananas from Mexico. I know it may be asking for a lot but anyone who imports from Mexico, or has done it, any help would be greatly appreciated. You will be compinsated as well WHEN things kick off!

Idealy, I would like to make the sale in Colima, where they are grown, and have the purchasing company figure out the logistics. Scales, packaging and all is done on site. Like I said, that would be the ideal plan, but I am open to anything.

Obviously, I have never done this before and could use all the help I could get. Maybe you don't have time but can get me in contact with the right people? Some help like that wil definetly be compinsated!

Edited: I've heard companies buy by the plant as well though. ___ number if acres and whatever is produced by "their" plants is theirs. Is this what you meant?

The main thing with importing is being able to get through customs. Remember that the container will likely have to switch drivers. Also, I suspect that the amount you are looking to bring over may be on the small side. A 40' container of bananas has about 40,000 lbs and this generally is the smallest amount that gets shipped. You could try to get in touch with a tomato shipper and gets some shipped in that way. If you have been shipping to Japan you should be aware of the kinds of paperwork necessary.

Where I work they import frozen fruit and vegetables from Mexico. They bring them from deep Mexico and then another Mexican driver just crosses the load and leaves the trailor back on the border when finished off loading. So the next driver that comes down drops off a full load and takes up and empty trailor. So it just cycles around. My company is valley international cold storage. Maybe they can help you along on storage and transportation?
