![]() I was looking around at my local home depot for a good fertilizer for my 3 foot bananas, and I think I found one. All Natural Organic Citrus food for Organic Gardening
The name is Espoma Citrus tone for citrus and avocado, and it is supposedly all natural. So my question is, does this have a good ratio of 5-2-6 for bananas? Also, how many times would I have to feed with this fertilizer, every week or so? The label only shows citrus. Do you guys recommend it? |

![]() The 10-5-20-3 that I wrote is the fertilizer composition...with the added "3" on the end being magnesium. I'll call them and ask if they distribute in the USA and if so, through which company, if you wish.

![]() I remember Bob saying he uses Espoma fert so maybe he'll chime in here. Citrus fert has higher nitrogen (I use 24-8-16), & nannas like higher potassium like 15-5-30 which is what I use. Look at the ratios of NPK. Mine also have the micros & I add some epsom salt (1 Tbls per gal) when I fert.

![]() Damaclese, I checked at Home Depot and the only kellogg stuff they have are soil amendments, and N'Rich, a compost, but no fertilizer. And Patty, I searched some more for a closer ratio like yours, but the closest thing home depot sells to that high of a ratio is this Product Information Error Page. But it's not organic like the other one.

![]() Before I found Banana Fuel on I net, I used miracle grow tomato food (at my HD) for my nanas cuz it had highest potassium -something like 18-18-24 (?) & it was OK.
Don''t use citrus fert on nanas.

Why not? Ive been using the espoma citrustone 5-2-6 in addition to an occasional shot of 12-0-0 liquid( both organic). I'm definitely open to suggestion though. I like the espoma because it's organic and local. I would prefer the 15-5-30 but had this on hand. |

![]() Bob, do you use the same fertilizing schedule and amounts as stated on the espoma bag, or do you have to change it for your bananas?

![]() Rich I'm still new to this so don't take my advice as empirical evidence. I am using their reccomendation as far as amounts but have modified it so that instead of fertilizing 3 times per year I give it smaller doses more often, twice per month when they're outdoors Primarily because it makes ME feel better that I'm doing something.

![]() Thanks Tom. I'll contact home depot and see what their policy is for ordering Tropical Fertilizer for Plantains and Bananas. And I'll be on the lookout for better banana fertilizer.
From now on I'll try to avoid buying anything off the net, because I placed an order for bananas from Greenearth Publishing Inc. and still haven't received them, it's been over a week. That guy who owns it, Ted Taylor, won't even respond to my emails. So unless any of you had luck from Greenearth, I am never ordering from them again, and you guys should probably consider a more reliable site before ordering from Greenearth. Just a heads up. |

![]() I use the Banana specific fertilizer compounded by Stokes Tropicals and have been very pleased with it. You don't have to be concerned about ordering from them either. They will ship it out fast and you are assured it will arrive.

![]() This stuff looks pretty good too--Lescos 8-2-10, but its tough to get into SC now. They told me that each type(10-10-10 or 8-2-10) requires a license for each state. If a brand is not popular, the company will not renew the license and it cannot be sold in the state.
Anyway, for those of you who can find it...it works. LESCO.com - Product Detail

![]() Eggbeater, it's good to hear that you got good service from Greenearth, so if it's working out for you, then that's great.
Have you ever heard of Tropica Mango Exotic Fruit Tree Nursery here in South Phoenix in south mountain village? That's where I bought my first two bananas from, kind of expensive though, my ice cream for $45, goldfinger for $35, and a amazingly healthy 7 foot Manila MAngo tree for $85. The place is like an outpost, and they have all kinds of tropical plants. The only guy who works there is super friendly and hilarious, so from now on, i'm going to them for all my tropical needs. |
