Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
yeh, the glaucom is the one of the best tropicals for handling the cold.
i wonder if the orange sap has some antifreeze in it. i know it's thick and hard to get off your hands when you get it on them.

Looks like it grows well in those grow bags you are using.

Planted this on Sunday May 19, 2024. It winter inside in a dark corner for the Winter. This is the same one that I posted from last Summer with the 40inch base.

Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
This is on the same plant from last year. I'm hoping I have a long enough season for the little bananas to give me seeds.

Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
After you dig that guy up and cut the leaves off, do you pot it in a dry or moist mix? And do you take the outdoor soil off the roots or not?

Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
Wow, that's a great flower. Can you see the little fruits developing up there between the looser bracts?

Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
Yes if I pull the petals apart I can see tiny bananas. This is the 2nd glaucum I've had flower. I'm not sure what we are going to do with it since it is getting really cold and I need to get everything inside. I've got 2 others that are fairly large and I'm hoping to dig today. I'll keep posting.

Re: tracking the growth of my ensete glaucum
I had 3 glaucum in the ground this year. One flowered (still in the ground) and 2 others that I dug this past week. I can't believe how big the 2 others got in 4 months. Here is a little slideshow of the biggest one I dug. If it survives the winter I'm sure it will flower next year.
