Smile Any tips/tricks for growing sugar cane?

Does anyone have any tips or ticks for growing sugar cane? So far I’m growing red & black varieties. Just thought I’d mention it! Thanks in advance!

They are fairly easy to grow, but like good soil, plenty of water and heat. You can easily start new plants from the canes, with the bottom portion being the best starter material. I have gotten really good results by cutting foot and a half sections, and laying them in shallow trenches horizontally.

I am growing Morgans red, and a very dark black type.

Mary, you're going to need a yard as big as my redwood preserve if you keep going, LOL!

I am super excited that sugar cane is easy to grow! Now how cool is that! You can actually grow a new plant from a piece or section of the original plant! I’m glad you mentioned to plant the cane horizontally! Wasn’t quite sure about that! Pretty neat that you’re also growing red & black too! Thanks so much for the very kind reply & help! Truly appreciate it!

I think you might just be right! Too funny! Hey at least there’s less grass to be mowed then! Doesn’t seem like such a bad idea now!
